Malayalam Movie Review - 1983 (Rating 3.5/5 Star)

Malayalam Movie 1983 Poster

 A feel good movie!!!

Summary:

Given how popular Cricket is in India and Kerala, it's surprising that there has not been many more movies surrounding it.  1983 is completely built around the game of Cricket from start to finish.  Not only is Cricket the underlying theme for every aspect of the film, the name 1983, is actually paying homage to India's first World Cup Victory.

Although Cricket is the general theme the story is built on, it is done in a way were someone who may not be a sport/cricket fan will also enjoy.  The backdrop for majority of the film is a a village with very little "modern" touches and it brings a level of reality and a likable feel to the characters.

The film goes through the various stages in Rameshan's life, played by Nivin Pauly, from Childhood to fatherhood.  All of it tied together by his love of Cricket and his friends.  The prototypical Nivin Pauly film so far has been on in which he plays the role of a Romantic Hero which often times did not seem challenging as an actor.  This one is different, and he proves that he can hold his own.

There really is no Heroin in the film and that's OK.  Manjula Sasidharan, played by Nikki Galrani is on screen for a good chunk of the film, but is not really a central character.  Joy Mathew, Anoop Menon and Srinda Ashab have a small but key role as Rameshan's father, sons Cricket Coach and Wife respectively.

1983 Gang/Friends:
Mantle Johny - Kalabhavan Prajod
Pappan played by Saiju Kurup
Prahaladan played by Neeraj Madhav
Babukuttan played by Sanju
Saji played by Dinesh
etc.

And a guest appearance by none other than Giri Giri, Jacob Gregory, playing the role of star cricket player "Sachin"!!!

All in all, good movie!!!

Malayalam Movie Review - Oru Indian Pranayakatha (Rating 3.25/5 Star)

Oru Indian Pranayakatha, Fahadh Faasil, Aymanam Sidharthan, Amala Paul

Aymanam Sidharthan for President !!!

Summary:

Oru Indian Pranayakatha - Fahadh FaasilNot exactly a ground breaking movie, for the most part.  Follows the general structure of Boy Meets Girl..... The movie is filled with the natural situational humor that one would expect from a Sathyan Anthikad movie.  What set's it apart is mainly two aspects: Fahadh Faasil & How one of the key elements in the story unfolds.

Fahadh Faasil's character, Aymanam Sidharthan, is the Youth Congress mandalam secretary of Ayamanam village.  He's got all the makings of a typical Malayali wanna be politician who wants the world but does not really want to work for it. This aspect of the film bring LOADS of laughter.  You pair that up with  Innocent (Uthup Vallikkadan or mostly referred to in the movie as Vallikkadan), and you got some good times to be had.

Oru Indian Pranayakatha - Fahadh and Innocent
Towards the second half of the movie, Amala Paul's character, Irene, get's worked in to film and brings in the Pranayakatha.

Oru Indian Pranayakatha - Amala PaulBoth Fahadh Faasil and Amala Paul have done a convincing job of there characters and are a good match onscreen.

The second Item that set's the movie apart, it's a spoiler so I do not want to comment.  I'll let you all figure it out for yourself.

All in all it's a lighthearted feel good movie, one I certainly enjoyed watching and am sure you will too.
